Our office for Bodinayakanur Kalanjia Jeevidam 10K Farmers Producer Company Limited is tucked away on Sixth Street in Krishna Nagar. We are in Ward No. 13, which is a busy little part of Bodinayakanur. This company was put together by a huge number of us—thousands of farmers from the surrounding hills and plains. Bodi is known for its spices and the green hills, and most of us spend our days out there in the dirt. We decided to set up this place at 51/3 to give ourselves a central spot to organize. It’s not a shiny corporate office with glass walls; it’s just a room with some chairs where we talk about the harvest and how to get things to the market. Working in a group of ten thousand sounds like a lot, but it’s really just a lot of neighbors trying to help each other out. We see the trucks moving through town every day and we just wanted to be a part of that process in a way that helps the people who actually grow the stuff. The air here usually smells like cardamom or coffee depending on the day. We are just regular people from the local area. If you come by, you’ll probably find us looking over some papers or talking about the latest weather forecast. It’s honest work and we do it together. We’ve been here for a while and we plan to stay put in this neighborhood so we can stay close to the land we know.
