Our shop is out on Tarnetar Road, right near that big F.C.I. godown. It’s actually so close to the godown that we tell people to just look for the grain trucks. The area stays pretty dusty because of all the traffic and the construction nearby. We have a lot of ceramic tiles sitting around, and they take up a lot of room. Sometimes we have to move twenty boxes just to find the one pattern someone is looking for. It is hard work on the back, but we are used to it by now. The sun really hits the front of the building in the afternoon, so we stay in the shade as much as we can. We’ve got a small desk where we handle the bills and a few chairs for when customers want to sit and think about their choices. It’s not a polished gallery, just a working warehouse where things move in and out every day. We know the truck drivers well because they’re always stopping by. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two, so we just sit outside and wait it out. We don’t use any fancy computer systems for the stock, we just count it by hand at the end of the week. It’s a slow and steady kind of life here. We just try to keep the tiles clean and the customers happy with what they find.
