Out here in Kopra, life moves at its own pace. We started Wankhede Farmer Producer Company Limited because it made sense for us locals to work together. Shri G. S. Wankhede had the idea first, and we just followed along from his place. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that, just a spot where we can talk about the crops and figure out how to sell what we grow. Most of us have been farming these fields for years, so we know the dirt and the weather pretty well. When the rain is good, everyone is happy. When it’s dry, we sit around and worry together. That’s just how it is. Being a producer company sounds official, but mostly it's just about making sure the people in Kopra get a fair deal. We deal with all sorts of grains and whatever else is in season. Sometimes it’s a struggle with the transport or the prices in the market, but having the group helps. We aren’t trying to change the world, just trying to make a living and keep the farms going for the next generation. People know where to find us if they need help with their harvest or if they just want to see how the season is looking. It’s hard work, getting up early and staying out late, but that is the life we chose here.
