Started out here at Shop No.7 in the Nirmala Devi Chintaman Dighe complex quite some time back. It’s right near Sumer Castle on L.B.S. Marg, so the traffic noise is just part of the day now. We open up Sayyed Engineering early when the air is still a bit cool before the Thane sun really gets going. There is always grease on someone's hands and the sound of machines humming in the background. It isn't a fancy office with glass walls, just a solid workshop where we get things done. Most of the time, the floor is covered with metal shavings and we are moving parts around to make space. The neighbors in the other units are usually busy too, so it's a loud place but it feels right. You find us mostly hunched over some piece of equipment or checking measurements. Sometimes the lights flicker when everyone starts their heavy gear at once. We don’t have much time for sitting around talking about goals or anything like that. There is work on the bench and it needs to be finished. People drop by because they know where we are, right off the main road. It gets dusty with all the trucks passing by outside, but inside we just keep focus on the metal and the tools. It’s been this way for years and we just keep the doors open and the machines running every day without making a big deal out of it.
