Saisamrudhi Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is based at Gut No 246 in Hiv Shahapur, Thane. Hiv is a small place and Gut No 246 is where we have set up our office. It’s a bit out of the way, but that’s where the land is. Being in the Thane district gives us access to different markets, but our heart is in Shahapur. The office is just a small room with a couple of tables and a few chairs. We are a group of women who run the show. We don't like a lot of fuss. We just get together and decide what needs to be bought or sold for the farms. The walls are a bit plain and we could probably use a new coat of paint, but it doesn't stop us from working. People from the surrounding huts and farms come by to check on things. We have a lot of conversations about the seasons and how they are changing lately. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We wear our everyday clothes and speak our local language. Saisamrudhi Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is our way of standing on our own feet. We don't make big promises to anyone. We just show up at Gut No 246 and do what we can for the group. It is a simple life and we are okay with that. Most days the birds are louder than any traffic outside. We just keep the door open for everyone.
