Murbad Taluka Agro Farmers Producer Company Limited is situated in the village of Kalamkhande, within the Murbad taluka of Thane district. We operate out of house number 5. It’s a local place for local people. Most of us involved in the company have been farming in the Thane area for generations. We know these hills and fields better than anything else. We decided to start this company to help ourselves and our neighbors get a better handle on the market. It’s not a big, shiny operation. We just have a small room in Kalamkhande where we keep our documents and have our discussions. Murbad is a beautiful area, but farming here has its own set of problems. We deal with the heavy monsoon rains and the heat just like everyone else. Our group is made up of real farmers who spend their days in the sun. When we meet at house number 5, it’s usually to talk about seeds, tools, or where to sell our harvest. We don’t have a lot of fancy equipment in the office, just the basics to keep things legal and organized. It’s hard work, and sometimes it feels like we are learning as we go, but we are making progress. We like being able to make our own decisions about our crops. It gives us a sense of pride to have Murbad Taluka in our name. We just take things one day at a time. The village of Kalamkhande is small, so news travels fast. We like that everyone is involved.
