Kiran Engg.Works is tucked away in Gala No.2 Garodia Apts. over in Lewis Wadi. It’s not a big shop at all, just a small space where we can fit our tools and a couple of workbenches. Being in a residential building means we have to be a bit careful about the noise, but everyone around here knows what we do. We mostly work with our hands, fixing things and making small metal parts. It gets crowded quickly if more than three people are inside. We have tools hanging on the walls and piles of scrap in the corners. The lighting isn't the best, so we use a lot of desk lamps to see what we’re doing. It’s a humble setup, really. Most of the people who come to us are locals who need something repaired or a quick welding job. We don’t have a receptionist or anyone like that; you just walk in and talk to whoever isn't holding a tool at the moment. The floor is concrete and always has some dust on it no matter how much we sweep. We enjoy the work because it’s different every day. One day we’re fixing a gate, and the next we’re working on a small engine part. It’s just how we live and work here in Thane. We’ve been in this gala for years and don’t plan on moving anywhere else anytime soon.
