Kanak Saree

If you head over to the Anand Building on Aasbibi Road, just off Kalyan Road, you will find Kanak Saree up on the first floor at Gala No. 101. We are a bit tucked away since we are not on the ground level, but people seem to find their way up the stairs anyway. The space is filled with stacks of fabric and different colors everywhere you look. We spend a lot of time folding and unfolding sarees for people who come in looking for something specific for a wedding or just for daily wear. It is a small shop, so it can get a bit tight when a few families are in at the same time. We have been in this spot for a while, and we know the other shopkeepers in the building well. The light in here isn't always the best, so we often have to take the fabric near the window to show the true colors. It is just a few of us working here, keeping track of the new arrivals and making sure everything is stored properly so the silk doesn't get ruined. We don't have any big advertisements or anything like that. Most people hear about us from their neighbors or relatives. It is a quiet kind of work, mostly involving a lot of patience and a good eye for patterns. We just try to keep the shelves full and the shop tidy. It is a simple life and it keeps us busy.
