This office is tucked away in Flat 402 of the Nakhwa Building in Sector 14. Navi Mumbai has its own rhythm, and being up on the fourth floor here, we’re a bit removed from the street noise below. It is a bit of a walk up if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we would like to admit. The rooms are a bit cramped because we’ve got filing cabinets everywhere, but it works for what we need to do each day. You can see the rooftops of other buildings from the small balcony where we usually take our tea breaks in the afternoon. It feels more like a home than a bank office because of the layout of the flat. We have a couple of old desks pushed against the walls and the wiring is a bit of a mess under the tables. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but nobody really cares as long as the work gets done and the records are kept straight. Most people who come here are locals from around the sector who know exactly which buzzer to press at the gate. It’s quiet enough that you can hear the birds sometimes, which is nice for a change in such a busy city. We spend most of our time staring at screens or talking on the phone with the main office. There’s always a stack of files that never seems to get smaller, but that is just how things go.
