Das Engineering Works

Das Engineering Works is down at Unit-4, Scout Camp Road, Behram Baug, Jogeshwari (W). Working in this part of town means you are always surrounded by some kind of noise or activity. Our unit is a practical space designed for work. We have machines running for most of the day. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings or a bit of oil here and there. It is not the cleanest environment you will ever see, but that is just how engineering workshops are. We have been at Unit-4 for quite a while. The neighbors are mostly other workshops and small businesses, so we all know each other. Sometimes we borrow a tool or help someone out with a heavy load. The roof leaks a tiny bit when the monsoon rains are really heavy, so we have to move the equipment around to keep it dry. It is just one of those things you deal with. We do not have a fancy office at all. There is just a small corner with a wooden table and a stool where we handle the billing and paperwork. It is loud and hot, and we are usually pretty tired by the end of the shift. But there is a sense of satisfaction in making things with your hands. People bring us parts that need fixing and we just take a look and get to work.
