Bharath Post Graduate College

Our college is located right on Puliyankudi Main Road in Tirunelveli. We’re on the first floor, so you have to walk up those stairs next to the Indian Bank. Being right across from the Government Hospital means there’s always traffic and sirens, but you sort of get used to the noise after a few days. We don't have a big campus with trees and grass. It’s more of an urban setup where every inch of space is used for something. The rooms are filled with desks and we have a small office where we keep all the records in big metal cupboards. Most of our students are busy with their postgraduate work, so they’re usually buried in books or talking quietly in the hall. The staff is quite small, so we all end up doing a bit of everything, from answering the phone to fixing a broken chair. We don’t have any fancy mission statements plastered on the walls. We just try to get the syllabus finished and help everyone get through their exams. It’s a straightforward place. Sometimes the water filter acts up or the lights flicker, but we just call the guy down the street to come and look at it. It’s very much a local Tirunelveli establishment. We know the tea stall owner downstairs and the people at the bank. Life here is fast-paced because of the location, but we manage to keep things moving along.
