Roots School is tucked away on Sattirajuvaari Street in the Venkatarayapuram area of Tanuku. It’s a quiet enough street compared to the main junctions. Our address is 534211 for anyone looking for it. The school is basically a local building that we’ve turned into a place for learning. We don’t have a massive campus with stadiums or anything like that. It’s more of a neighborhood school where everyone knows each other. The kids walk through the gates every morning, many of them living just a few streets away. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood while classes are going on—dogs barking or someone’s motorbike starting up nearby. We have a set of teachers who have been with us for a good while. They know the families and the siblings who have passed through here before. The classrooms are filled with the usual stuff like charts on the walls and piles of notebooks on the teachers' desks. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many kids running around, there’s always a bit of dust or a stray pencil on the floor. It’s just a normal, everyday school where we try to get the basics right. We don't use a lot of technology; it’s mostly just books and talk. When the day ends at Tanuku, the street gets busy for a few minutes while everyone leaves, then it goes back to being quiet again until the next morning.
