You can find us at 384, T.H. Road, over in Thiruvottiyur. Being on T.H. Road means it’s always noisy outside with all the buses and lorries going past, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Our shop is right there on the main stretch, so it’s easy for people to drop in. It’s an old building, one of the older ones on this block, and it has its quirks, like the light switch that sticks sometimes. We deal with various general items, whatever people in the area are asking for. It’s a family-run kind of thing, my brother and I take turns being behind the counter. We don’t have a fancy display, just shelves packed with whatever came in on the last truck. Thiruvottiyur is a working-class area, and we like that vibe. People here are straightforward, and we try to be the same with them. Sometimes the rains make the front step a bit slippery, so we have to put out a mat, but mostly it’s just a standard daily routine. We open up early and stay open until the sun goes down. There’s no big philosophy behind what we do, we just provide what’s needed and try to keep things moving. The back room is a bit of a mess with all the paperwork and old ledgers, but we know where everything is. It’s a local business through and through, nothing more and nothing less.
