Sri Granites

Tadpatri is known for its stone, and we are right in the middle of it here in the Anantapur district. Sri Granites has been operating for a while, and the yard is usually full of slabs in various shades of grey and black. The sun hits the stone and makes it really hot to touch by midday. We spend a lot of time moving these heavy pieces around with the lifters. It’s a noisy environment because of the cutting machines and the water spray used to keep the dust down, though the dust still finds its way into every corner of the office. We get blocks from the quarries and then it’s a process of slicing them down to the right thickness. Every piece of granite is different, so we spend a lot of time looking at the patterns and the veins in the rock. It’s hard work on the back and the hands, and we mostly wear thick boots because of the wet floors and the heavy weight of the materials. We don't have a big sales team; usually, it’s just a few of us showing people around the rows of stone we have standing in the racks. People come from all over the district to see what we’ve cut recently. We just try to get the orders loaded up and sent out on the trucks as they come in, making sure the edges don't get chipped during the process. It’s a lot of physical labor but we are used to the routine by now.
