Gopi Restaurant

If you are driving down the main highway in Surendranagar, you will find Gopi Restaurant inside the Hotel Shiv International building. We are located right on Station Road, not far from the bus stand. It’s a busy spot because of the highway traffic and the people coming from the railway station. Opposite us is Adarsh Society, so we see a lot of the same faces every day. The place isn't anything fancy. We have rows of tables and the lighting is a bit dim in the corners. The kitchen staff stays busy from early morning until late at night. There is always a layer of dust on the windows from the trucks passing by outside, no matter how often we clean them. People stop in because they are hungry and in a hurry to get to their next destination. We don’t spend much time on talk, just taking orders and bringing out the food as fast as the stove allows. Sometimes the supply truck is late, and we have to make do with what we have in the pantry. That’s just how it is running a place on a main road like this. The noise from the bus stand is constant, and you can hear the conductors shouting even from inside the dining room. We close the gates late at night once the last bus has gone through and the highway finally starts to settle down. The overhead lights hum a bit before we flip the switch.
