Vogue Fashion

Our place is tucked away in the Gujarat Housing Board area, right near the Old Bombay Market. It is No. 28/551. If you know Umarwada, you know how packed it gets around the Bombay Market every single day. There are trucks unloading goods at all hours and people everywhere. Vogue Fashion is a small operation. We do not have a fancy storefront with big glass windows or mannequins. It is more of a practical workspace where we keep our inventory and deal with the people who already know we are here. The walls are painted a plain white, and we have metal racks bolted to them to hold the weight of the clothes. It is a lot of walking back and forth between the rows. Sometimes the neighborhood kids play right outside the door, and the sound of their shouting mixes with the noise from the market. We have to keep the door closed mostly because of the dust from the road and the construction nearby. Inside, it is just us and the clothes. We spend a lot of time checking for loose threads or any missing buttons before anything goes out. It is not a glamorous job, but it is what we do for a living. The afternoon sun hits the front of the building very hard, making it quite warm inside during the summer months. We have a couple of small stools for when we get a moment to sit down. It is a busy corner of Surat, and we just try to keep up with the pace.
