We are located on the ground floor of the New Textile Market on Ring Road, specifically units one through five. It is a very busy area with trucks and rickshaws constantly moving rolls of cloth around. Being on the ground floor means we see everyone passing by. Our space is mostly filled with different types of fabrics and garments. We spend most of our morning just moving bundles from the delivery area into our units. It can get quite dusty in the market because of all the movement, so we spend a lot of time dusting off the shelves. It’s not the quietest place to work, but we are used to the noise of the Ring Road by now. We have five units connected together, so there is a bit of room to walk around, but it still feels cramped when new stock arrives. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who have been working together for years. We know where every single roll of fabric is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone walking in from the street. Lunch is usually eaten quickly in the back between customers. Most of the people who come in are regulars who have been buying from this market for a long time. We just keep our heads down and get the work done. It’s a long day from start to finish.
