Taj Gateway Hotels. We are based up here in Khatima, Uttarakhand. It is a different world compared to the big cities down south or out west. We are surrounded by the hills and a lot of open space. The air is definitely fresher, though it gets quite cold in the winter months. Our office is a modest building that we have been using for quite some time. We don’t have a big corporate setup with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just some wooden desks, a few old computers, and a lot of paper records. We spend a lot of time on the phone because of the hotel business. Most of the people who work here are from the local villages nearby. We all walk or take the bus to get in. Sometimes when it rains heavily, the power goes out, and we have to wait a bit before we can get back to work. We don’t mind it much; it’s just how things are in this part of the country. We know most of the shopkeepers on our street and we usually stop for a chat on the way in. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big words or fancy presentations. We just make sure the rooms are ready and the bookings are handled correctly. It’s a quiet way to make a living, and we’re quite content with the way things are going.
