We spend most of our time here at Shankhwali Fashion Llp, which is tucked inside the Radhakrishna area of the textile market. If you are looking for us, we are up on the first floor in shop number 16001. It is quite a walk to get to row 108, but that is where the work happens every day. Nawab Wadi is always crowded and Begumpura stays busy from morning until the evening. We have been here in Surat for a while now. The space isn’t huge but it fits what we need to get through the daily pile of work. Most days it is just about managing the stock and making sure things are sorted properly. Sometimes the elevators are slow, so we just take the stairs to the first floor. It is a typical spot in the market. You see the same faces every day and the tea man comes around at the same time every afternoon. We don’t really do anything fancy here, just basic work with fabrics and keeping the shop running. The address is long on paper, but once you know the market, it’s not too hard to find us. We just keep our heads down and handle the orders as they come in. Being in this part of Surat means there is always noise and movement outside, but inside shop 16001, we just focus on the clothes and getting things packed up. It can get quite hot in the summer but the fans keep us going.
