Ganga Exports 12

Our unit is Plot No. 46 in the Apperal Park out in Sachin. It’s a big industrial area, so there are always trucks moving in and out, making a lot of noise. We moved into this plot a few years back. It’s a large rectangular space that gets very hot in the summer because of the metal roof. We have rows of machines and a big area in the back for packing. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit for a coffee, but it works for what we do. The floor is concrete and always has some thread or bits of cloth stuck in the cracks. We start early, usually before the sun is fully up, to get a head start on the day’s work. Ganga Exports 12 is just the name on the gate. Inside, it’s mostly us shouting over the noise of the machines and trying to make sure the boxes are labeled correctly. There is a small office in the corner made of plywood where we keep the computer and the ledger. The tea lady comes by at ten and four, and everyone takes a break then. Sachin is a bit far from the main city, so we usually bring our own lunch and eat together near the loading dock. It’s hard work, and our hands are usually tired by the end of the shift, but that is the nature of the business. We try to keep the fans running all day just to stay sane in this heat.
