Our place is on the Ground Floor, H-9/10, in the India Textile Market. Being in the textile market means we are right in the thick of Surat's main trade. It is a very noisy and crowded area, especially on Ring Road near Kinnary Talkies. You can always hear the porters moving goods and the constant honking of the rickshaws outside. Our office, S C Bafna & Co, is tucked away on the ground floor, which makes it easy for people to just walk in from the street. We do not have fancy glass walls or expensive art. It is a practical space with heavy metal cupboards for our records and desks that are piled high with ledger books and documents. We have been part of this market community for a long time. The smell of new cloth and the constant movement of the market is just part of our daily life. We drink our chai, talk to the neighbors, and keep our heads down to finish the work. It is a bit dusty and cramped sometimes, but that is just how the textile market is. We like being accessible and being right where the real business of the city happens. There is no pretense here; we just do our job and go home at the end of the day, ready to do it again tomorrow morning when the market opens back up.
