R.R. Fashion

R.R. Fashion is based out of C-9 in Akshardham Society, which is over in the Kapodra area of Surat. It’s more of a residential-feeling spot than some of the big markets, which we actually prefer. We work out of this space and it feels more personal that way. There aren't any big neon signs pointing to us. Most people who come here already know where we are or have heard about us from someone else in Kapodra. Our setup is pretty basic. We’ve got some sewing machines, some storage racks, and a small desk where we keep our notebooks. We don't use computers for everything; a lot of our notes are still hand-written in those big ledger books. The neighborhood is fairly quiet compared to the center of Surat, though you still hear the occasional scooter or kids playing nearby. We spend our days mostly focused on the garments. There is always a hem to fix or a seam to check. It’s steady work. We take our lunch breaks together and usually talk about things other than business. It’s a small group of us, so we’re more like family than just coworkers. We aren't looking to become some giant corporation. We just like doing our work here in the society and being part of the local community. It’s a good way to spend the day, even when things get a bit hectic.
