We are up on the 5th floor of the Rusabh Textile Tower on Ring Road. If you’ve ever been to Surat, you know how busy the Ring Road gets, especially around the textile markets. It’s a lot of noise and movement all day long. Spg International has been in this building for some time now. The elevator is usually full of people carrying big bundles of cloth, so we often just wait or take the stairs if we aren't carrying much. Our office isn't very big, but it has a good view of the traffic below. We spend most of our hours talking to traders and checking on shipments that are going out. It’s a lot of back-and-forth work. The air in the tower always smells a bit like new fabric and tea. We don't have fancy furniture; mostly just sturdy desks and shelves that are starting to sag under the weight of all the samples and files. It’s a practical space for a practical job. We don’t go in for big speeches or polished presentations. We just show the samples, talk about the prices, and try to get the orders right. Sometimes the tea seller comes around, and that’s the highlight of the afternoon. It’s a hard-working atmosphere here on the fifth floor. We stay until the work is done, which is often late into the evening when the Ring Road finally starts to quiet down a bit.
