Rameshwar General Stores

If you know Kamrej Char Rasta, you know how busy it gets with all the trucks and cars passing through. Our shop is at number 8, right where the noise is the loudest. It’s a general store, so we have a mix of everything from notebooks to washing powder. The shelves are wooden and a bit warped from the humidity, but they hold up fine. I usually start the day by opening the metal shutters and setting out the display racks. There is always a layer of fine dust on the glass jars because of the construction nearby, so I’m always wiping things down with an old cloth. People traveling through often stop here to grab a bottle of water or some biscuits for their journey. It’s a small space, and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once. I’ve lived around here for a long time, so I know most of the regulars who come by for their daily needs. We don't really have a fancy sign, just the name painted above the door. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit on high speed, but it keeps the air moving and helps with the heat. Dealing with the temperature in the summer is probably the hardest part of the job, but we just drink plenty of water and keep the shop open until late. It's just a regular place for regular stuff and it has been that way for years.
