Looks Lady

Our shop is number 2084 in the Vankar Textile Market. If you’ve been to Surat, you know how these markets are—huge, crowded, and full of fabric. Looks Lady is right in the thick of it, opposite the Reshamwala Market on Ring Road. It’s a small space, but we pack it full of sarees and dress materials. There’s barely enough room for three people to stand sometimes. We spend the whole day unfolding and folding cloth for customers. The Ring Road is always jammed with traffic and people moving bales of fabric. It’s noisy and dusty, but that’s the life of a trader here. We’ve been in this market for a few years now. Most of our day is spent talking to wholesalers or people looking for something specific for a wedding. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who know where every single piece of cloth is hidden in the stacks. Sometimes we lose track of time because there are no windows in the shop. We drink a lot of tea from the local stall. The business is tough because there’s so much competition right next door. We just try to be helpful and show the best stuff we have. It’s not a fancy boutique; it’s a market shop. We work long hours, especially during the festive season when everyone wants new clothes. It’s a busy, cramped, and lively way to make a living.
