Karni Sequence

Being at 111 in the Bhatia Complex on Bamroli Road means we are right in the thick of things in Udhana. The traffic outside is always loud with rickshaws and delivery vans honking all the time. Inside our space, it’s a bit different. We have these machines running that make a rhythmic clicking sound all day long. We work with sequences and embroidery, so there are tiny shiny bits all over the floor that are impossible to sweep up completely. You find them in your shoes when you go home. My desk is tucked in the corner behind some stacks of fabric rolls. We’ve been in this building for some time now and know the watchman and the other shop owners pretty well. Lunch is usually brought from home in steel dabbas and we eat together on the packing table. Sometimes we get a big order and the whole place feels cramped with material everywhere. It’s just how it goes in a textile hub like this. Udhana can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to the pace, but for us, it’s just another Tuesday. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the room number and our name. It's a small operation, really. Just a few of us making sure the work gets done right before the sun sets. We try to keep things organized but in a place this busy, things usually end up in piles by the time five o'clock rolls around and we prepare to close for the day.
