Carnival Tours

Carnival Tours is tucked away in room 703 of the Hirabag building in Kapoda. It’s a high floor, so we get a decent view of the traffic down below while we are working on the phones. We started this because we liked traveling ourselves, but now we spend most of our time making sure other people get where they are going. The office is small and usually filled with stacks of pamphlets and printed itineraries that we keep for reference. We handle a lot of local bus bookings and some train tickets for families going on pilgrimage or visiting relatives. It gets pretty frantic during the festival seasons when everyone wants to travel at the exact same time and the seats are all gone. We spend hours on the computer trying to find a connection that works. It’s not like those big internet sites where you just click a button; we actually talk to the drivers and the hotel owners to see if the rooms are actually clean. Sometimes the internet goes down and we have to do everything by calling people on their mobiles. People come in to pay their deposits and sit for a while to ask about the weather in the mountains or if the roads are open after the landslides. We just try to give them a straight answer based on what we heard from the last group that came back.
