Kanak Watch & Mobile

Down in Udhna, just off Jangali Maharaj Road in Shivaji Nagar, you can find Kanak Watch & Mobile at L/23. We have been doing this for quite some time, mixing the old way of fixing watches with the new stuff like mobile phones. It’s an interesting mix because the tools for a watch are so delicate, and then you have mobile phones which are a completely different kind of headache. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about where we put everything. You’ll hear the ticking of various clocks on the walls while we are trying to figure out why a smartphone screen won't turn on. It gets a bit cramped when three or four people come in at once, but we manage. My hands are usually a bit stained from working with tiny gears or cleaning out phone charging ports. People from around Shivaji Nagar stop by because they know we don’t make a big deal out of things. We just tell them if it can be fixed or if it’s time to get a new one. The lighting inside could probably be better, and the counter has a few scratches from years of use, but it feels like home to us. We open up every morning and stay until the sun goes down, just helping whoever walks through the door with their timepieces or their tech. It’s a simple trade, and we are glad to be doing it here. We don't need a lot of space to get the work done properly.
