If you're over by Kamrej Char Rasta, specifically near Kansara Chawl, you’ve probably walked past Kadri Mobile Shop. We are right in the thick of things there. It’s a lively area and there’s always something going on outside our door. Inside, it’s mostly just us working on phones. We get a lot of people coming in with water damage or buttons that don't click anymore. It's a lot of fiddly work with small screwdrivers and tweezers, but we're used to it by now. We also sell recharge vouchers and SIM cards, which keeps us pretty steady throughout the day. We have a glass counter where we keep the second-hand phones we’ve refurbished ourselves. They aren't always perfect-looking, but they work fine and they’re much cheaper than the brand new ones in the boxes. The shop isn't very big, so things can feel a bit cramped when three or four customers are in at once. We usually have the radio on or just chat with whoever is waiting for their repair. We don't use any fancy computer systems for tracking everything; we mostly just remember our regulars and keep a notebook on the counter. It works for us. People know they can come in for a quick chat while we check their battery health. It’s a local business and we try to treat everyone like a neighbor because they usually are. We just keep the lights on and keep fixing whatever comes through the door.
