Dr. Ghandhy College has been sitting at Majuragate in Surat for a long time. If you know Surat, you know Majuragate is a busy spot. There is always a lot of noise from the traffic and people moving about. The college building itself is an older style, not like the new glass towers you see popping up elsewhere in Gujarat. We have wide hallways and heavy doors. It feels like a place that has seen many generations of students pass through. We are a college, so the atmosphere is a bit different than a primary school. The students are older, often seen standing around in groups near the entrance or in the courtyards between lectures. The faculty here is a mix of people who have been teaching for decades. We don't have any slick marketing brochures to hand out. The 395001 area is central, so it’s easy for students to get here by bus or scooter. The labs and classrooms are functional. They aren't state-of-the-art, but they get the job done for the courses we offer. We don't have a lot of fancy events; it’s mostly just the regular schedule of classes and exams. People come here because it's a known name in the city and it's convenient. We just keep the doors open and the schedules running as they should. It is just a part of the city. We try to keep the place tidy but it's a big old building.
