Dalpatram Zinabhai Lokhandwala & Co

We have been operating out of Bhagal Raj Marg for quite a while now. The name Dalpatram Zinabhai Lokhandwala & Co has been on the sign for generations, and we still do things the old way mostly. Our shop is full of metal bits, tools, and hardware supplies that people in this part of the city need. It’s a busy street, so there’s always noise and people walking past the door. I spend most of my time behind the counter or digging through drawers to find a specific size of bolt or a particular tool someone is looking for. We don’t have everything organized on computer screens. A lot of it is just knowing which shelf holds what. My grandfather started things here, and not much has changed in terms of the building. It’s got that old shop smell—metal and a bit of oil. People come in from the neighborhood because they know we’ve been here forever. We chat about the weather or the traffic on Raj Marg while I wrap up their items. It’s not a big corporate place. It’s just a local hardware store where we know our regulars by their first names. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when three people want something different at the same time, but we get through it. We just stay open until the sun goes down and then do it all again the next morning. It’s honest work and keeps us busy.
