Ark Fashion

If you come down to P-85/86 Old Katargam, you’ll find Ark Fashion right opposite the Sutex Bank in the GIDC area. It’s a very industrial part of town, so there is always the sound of machinery and trucks idling nearby. Our space is basically a big workshop where we put everything together. Being near the bank is helpful for people to find us, as everyone knows where the Sutex Bank is. Inside, it’s mostly just rows of tables and people working. We have a lot of fabric scraps on the floor and the smell of new clothes is pretty strong. It gets dusty because of all the cutting, so we try to sweep up every evening. Katargam is always busy, and being in the GIDC means we are surrounded by other businesses doing similar things. We aren't a showroom with glass windows and mannequins. It’s more of a practical place where the actual making happens. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the afternoon slump. Most of the guys here have been working in fashion for a long time, so they know the machines inside out. We just take the orders, cut the cloth, and sew it up. It’s not a complicated life, but it keeps us busy from morning until late every single day.
