If you know the Surat Textile Market on Ring Road, then you know how crazy it can get. Amit Fashion is at shop No. 1081 inside that massive building. It’s a maze in here, with thousands of shops and people pushing carts full of fabric through the narrow aisles. Our space is small, just like most of the shops in the market. We have rolls of cloth stacked from the floor all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes it feels like the walls are closing in, but that’s just life in the textile trade. We spend our days talking to traders, showing samples, and trying to keep track of our orders. The noise is constant—shouting, carts rattling, and the hum of the market. We don't have a quiet office to sit in. We mostly stand or sit on small stools. It’s a tiring job, and by the time we close up and head to Ring Road, we are usually pretty worn out. But there’s an energy in this market that you don’t find anywhere else. We don’t do anything fancy like catalogs or big advertisements. People come to us because they know where we are and they know what we have in stock. It’s a very old-school way of doing business, based on being here every day and knowing the people around you. It's crowded and hot, but it’s our work and we just get on with it without complaining much. The market never really stops moving.
