It is often quite dusty and very noisy, which is pretty much what anyone would expect when working around a blast furnace area. We don't really have a lot of time for sitting around or taking long breaks. Most of the guys are out on the floor or checking the heavy equipment to make sure nothing breaks down. It is hot work, especially in the summer, and we all just try to stay hydrated and get through our shifts safely. There isn't any fancy writing on the office walls or those "employee of the month" posters you see in movies. We just know exactly what needs to be done to keep the steel production moving forward. It is a big operation with a lot of moving parts, but at the end of the day, it is just regular people making sure the machines are running and the output is what it should be. We deal with the daily problems as they come up, like broken parts or trucks that show up late. It’s not a clean job, but it is what we do.
