Nigeen Crafts

We are tucked away in Khaja Pora Syed Pora, right in the Rainawari part of Srinagar. If you know the area, it is quite busy with narrow lanes and people moving about their day. Our workshop is where we spend most of our hours. It’s not a fancy place, just a workspace filled with tools and materials we use for our crafts. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and wait, or work by the light from the window. The air in Kashmir gets really cold during the winter months, so we keep a small heater going while we work on the wood and the fabrics. Nigeen Crafts isn't a big corporation or anything like that. It’s just us working here. Most of the people who come by are locals or someone who heard about us from a neighbor. We usually start early in the morning when the sun is just coming up over the water. The sounds of the neighborhood are part of our day, from the local vendors shouting to the kids walking to school. We have been in this spot for a while now and everyone around here knows where to find us. We don’t have a big sign out front, just the door that stays open most of the day unless it’s snowing. We just keep doing what we do, day after day, and that’s how it’s been for years.
