Carpetshop

Being near Gole Market means it's always noisy outside. We opened Carpetshop in Karannagar because it seemed like a good central place. The shop isn't very big, so we have to stack the rugs high against the walls. Sometimes it's a bit of a struggle to pull one out from the bottom of the pile for a customer to see. We usually have to move three or four others first. It keeps us moving. There’s a small desk in the corner where we keep the books and a calculator that’s missing the '8' button, but we know where it is. We sell different kinds of floor coverings, mostly things people can use in their living rooms or bedrooms. Nothing too flashy. We get a lot of people walking in while they’re out doing their regular shopping at the market. Some just want to feel the texture or ask about the price. We tell them what we know. The floor is concrete and we should probably paint it again soon, but there never seems to be a good time to clear everything out. My cousin helps me out on the weekends. We drink a lot of coffee while we wait for deliveries to arrive. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the market traffic, so we just sit on the front step and watch the people go by. It’s a decent way to spend the day. The roof leaks a tiny bit when it rains really hard, so we keep a bucket ready by the side door.
