Akshara Vidyalaya

We are located in Venkatachalam, right in the Nellore - 524320 area. The school has been here for a good while now, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. Most mornings start pretty early when the kids arrive from the nearby villages and the town. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, especially during the summer months, but we have enough trees around the yard to provide some shade for the students during their lunch breaks. The teachers here mostly live in the surrounding area too, so it feels like a close community where everyone knows each other’s names. We have some older desks that need a bit of fixing every now and then, and the playground sees a lot of heavy use every single day. It isn't a fancy place with marble floors or shiny new equipment. It’s just a regular building with classrooms where we try to get through the daily lessons without much fuss. Parents often come by to talk about how their kids are doing, usually catching us at the gate or in the small office area by the entrance. We try to keep the attendance registers updated and make sure the children stay out of trouble during the short breaks. The walk from the main road isn't too long, which is helpful. We have a couple of buses for the kids who live further away. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just open the windows and keep going. It’s a busy place, but we like it that way.
