The Leela Goa

Down here in Mobor, right by Cavelossim, things move a bit slower than they do in North Goa. We are The Leela Goa, and we’ve been part of this landscape for a long time. The address is 403731 if you’re looking at a map, though most locals just know us as the big place at the end of the road. Being between the river and the sea means there is always a breeze, but it also means we spend a lot of time fighting the salt air to keep everything from rusting or wearing down. It’s a constant job. The staff here comes from all over, but many are from the nearby villages. We wake up early to get the grounds ready before the sun gets too hot. People come here to get away from the noise, so we try to keep things peaceful. It’s not about being fancy for the sake of it, it’s just how the place was built years ago. We spend our days checking on the gardens and making sure the paths are clear for guests. When the monsoon hits, everything turns incredibly green almost overnight, and we shift into a different mode of working. It’s hard work running a place this size, but we just take it one task at a time. It’s a quiet corner of Goa, and we like it that way. Most of us have been here for years, so we’re like a big family.
