The Danceworx Performing Arts Academy

You’ll find us at S-127 in Greater Kailash-2, New Delhi. It’s a pretty well-known spot in the neighborhood. Most days, you can hear music thumping from the street before you even get inside the door. The academy is where everything happens for us. We spend a lot of time on the floor, literally. There’s always someone practicing a routine or a teacher showing a new move to a group. It smells like hard work and maybe a bit of floor wax. We aren’t a corporate school with uniforms and strict silence in the halls. It’s actually pretty loud and messy most of the time. We’ve got bags and shoes piled up in the corners. People think dance is all about the lights and the stage, but here, it’s about the sweat and the constant repeats. We’ve been in GK-2 for years. The locals are used to seeing students hanging out outside during their breaks. We don’t have a big mission statement on the wall. We just have schedules and a lot of mirrors. Sometimes the air conditioning struggles in the middle of a Delhi summer, but we keep going anyway. It’s just us doing what we do. We don’t pretend to be anything we aren’t. It’s a place for people who want to move and learn. No fancy talk, just a lot of practice and the occasional bit of drama that comes with the arts.
