Salim Scrap

If you head down the main road in Chhattarpur Chandan Hula, you’ll find our scrap yard. It’s a busy spot and there’s always something happening with trucks coming in and out. At Salim Scrap, we mostly deal with metal and old machinery that people don't need anymore. The yard is usually full of piles of iron, copper, and whatever else comes through the gate. It gets pretty dusty out here, especially in the summer when the wind picks up. I spend most of my day weighing things on the big scale and figuring out where to put the new loads. It’s not a clean job, my clothes are usually stained with grease or rust by the time lunch rolls around. My brother helps me out with the heavy lifting because some of these parts are too big for one person. We’ve been at this location for a good bit of time now and most of the local drivers know where to turn off the main road. It’s loud because of the traffic and the sound of metal hitting metal, but you get used to it after a week. We don't have a fancy office, just a small cabin where we keep the books and take a break. Most of the time we’re just out in the open air, working through the piles and sorting the stuff by hand. It is just basic labor that needs doing every day.
