Our little shop is over in Shakarpur, in the School Block at S-553. It’s a narrow street, and like the name suggests, there are a couple of schools nearby. This means our day is mostly timed around the school bells. When the kids get out, the shop gets absolutely packed for about twenty minutes. It’s a lot of noise and kids asking for different things all at once. We sell a bit of everything, mostly small snacks, biscuits, and some cold drinks from the fridge. The shop itself is quite old. The shelves are wooden and have been painted a few times over the years, though they’re starting to peel again. We don’t have a lot of space, so things are piled up pretty high. You have to be careful not to knock anything over when you walk in. We’ve lived in this neighborhood for a long time, so we know most of the parents and the teachers too. It’s a tight-knit place. We don’t have any fancy displays or neon lights. It’s just a regular shop where you can grab what you need. Sometimes we sit outside on a plastic chair when it’s quiet and watch the traffic go by. It’s a simple life. We open at eight and usually close up around nine at night.
