I spend most of my day moving around the Kalkaji Main Road area. This isn't a traditional shop where you sit and wait. Instead, I pack up my bag with all the combs, scissors, and creams and head out to people's houses. It’s a different way of working. I get to see many different homes and meet people where they are most comfortable. Some days I’m walking quite a bit, other days I take a rickshaw if the house is further down the road. It saves them the trouble of sitting in a crowded parlor. I do mostly basic beauty stuff, like threading or hair oiling. My phone is usually buzzing with messages from people asking if I can come over in the afternoon. I have to plan my route carefully so I don't spend all my time traveling. Sometimes a client offers me tea, which is nice when I'm tired. I don't have a big office or a storefront to show off. My work is just about being reliable and showing up when I say I will.
