Ajnabi Mithaai Private Limited

We are situated at number 48 in the village area of Hauz Khas. Most people think of Hauz Khas for the fancy cafes and the fort, but the village part where we are has its own old-school charm. We make sweets, or mithaai, and that’s what we’ve been doing for quite some time now. The space is a bit cramped because we need room for the kitchens and the counters. It smells like sugar and milk most of the time, which is probably the best part of the job. Being in South West Delhi, we get all sorts of people walking by, from students to tourists to the locals who have lived here forever. Our shop isn't shiny or modern. We have the same old shelves and the same way of doing things that we’ve used for years. It’s a bit noisy with the fans going and the sound of people talking in the narrow lanes outside. We don't have a big marketing plan; we just put the sweets out and people come to buy them. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by the evening, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s honest work and we take pride in the fact that we use real ingredients. The floor might be a bit sticky by the end of a long shift, but that's just how it goes when you're making mithaai all day. We are just local sweet makers doing what we know best in our little corner of Hauz Khas.
