Our office is located over in 25-C, Mig Sheikh Sarai-1, which is part of a quiet residential block that feels a world away from the busy markets. Abhijit Ray And Associates is basically run out of this flat, so it has a very personal, lived-in feel to it. You have to walk through the common area of the MIG complex to reach us, and you’ll often hear the sounds of families living their lives nearby. Inside, we’ve converted the main rooms into workspace. There are shelves lining the walls, mostly filled with books and old records that we haven’t had the heart to throw away yet. The balcony is a small escape where we keep a few potted plants, although they struggle a bit in the summer heat. We spend a lot of time on our computers, but there’s also plenty of manual work with physical documents that keep us busy. It isn’t a corporate headquarters with a lobby or a receptionist; it’s just a place where we come to work every morning. We usually start the day by opening all the windows to get some breeze through the rooms before it gets too hot. Most of our neighbors know us by now, and it’s common to exchange a nod with someone in the stairwell. It’s a simple setup, but it suits the way we handle our daily business. Sometimes the doorbell sticks, but we haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
