Our college is located in Sonarpur, down in the southern part of Kolkata. It’s a place that feels a bit removed from the main city rush, though Sonarpur has its own kind of busyness. The train station isn't too far, so you see a lot of students walking from there every morning. The building itself is pretty straightforward—no fancy architecture here, just solid walls and plenty of room for all the law books we have to keep. Law is a serious subject, so the atmosphere inside tends to be a bit quiet, with people hunched over their notes or talking in low voices in the corridors. We have a small library that’s always packed, and the wooden tables there have been around for as long as I can remember. The summers in Kolkata are tough, and the ceiling fans in our classrooms work overtime to keep us from melting. It’s a basic setup, really. We don’t have lounge areas or cafes; we just have the classrooms and the offices where we handle the paperwork. The staff here is used to the local pace of life. We deal with the monsoon rains flooding the approach road and the heat in May. It’s just a regular college where people come to get their degrees and move on to their careers. There’s no pretense about it. We’re just here in Sonarpur, doing the work that needs to be done. It's a plain, honest place to study.
