Bharat Marble Emporium

We are located right near the Pepsi Factory in Kamalgazi. It is a good landmark because everyone knows where the factory is. Our place in Narendrapur is mostly a big open space filled with stones. We have marble from different quarries. Some of it is local and some comes from further away. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. My back usually aches by the end of the week. People come in looking for something specific for their new homes. They ask about the price per foot and we tell them. There isn't much to it. We don't have a showroom with bright lights. It is mostly just the slabs leaning against each other under a tin roof. When it rains, the sound on the roof is so loud we can hardly hear the customers. We have a few guys who help with the loading. You have to be careful not to crack the edges. Marble is tough but it can snap if you handle it wrong. We see a lot of families coming in on the weekends. They argue about colors for hours while we just wait. It is a slow kind of business. We’ve been at this spot for years. The neighborhood has changed around us, but we are still here selling stone. It is just what we do. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done for people building homes. Most of our time is spent just waiting for the next truck to show up.
