Sriniwas Dal Mill

Sriniwas Dal Mill is located right opposite the railway station in Latur. Being near the station is good for business because the trains make it easy to move things, but it also means there is constant noise from the whistles and the tracks. Latur is known for its dal, so there are mills all over the place here. We are just one of the smaller ones. We’ve been in this same spot for years. The building is old and has a lot of character, which is a polite way of saying the roof leaks a tiny bit when it pours. We process various types of pulses that come in from the local markets. It’s a simple process of cleaning and splitting, but it takes time to get it right. We have a few guys who have been working the machines since they were young. We don’t have any fancy business strategies. We just open up early in the morning, see what needs to be done, and get to it. Sometimes we sit outside on wooden stools and watch the people coming and going from the station. It’s a good way to pass the time when the machines are being serviced. We aren't trying to impress anyone with our setup. It’s just a workspace where we get things done. Most of our customers are local traders who have been buying from us for a decade or more. That's how we stay in business.
