We are up here in New Shimla, located at B 168 in Sector 3. Working in Himachal Pradesh is a bit different because of the weather and the terrain. The office is a standard building that fits in with the rest of the neighborhood. Since we are a telecom outfit, there is always a lot of technical talk and equipment lying around the rooms. The winters get quite cold up here, so we spend a lot of time keeping the heaters running while we track service issues and handle customer requests from around the region. New Shimla is a bit quieter than the main Mall Road area, which is nice for actually getting things done without too many distractions. We deal with a lot of phone lines and data connections across the state. Sometimes the mountain roads and landslides make it hard for the field guys to get out to fix things, but we manage. It’s not a shiny corporate tower; it’s more of a functional hub for the local region and we like the practical feel of it. Most of us have been here for years and we know the local network like the back of our hands. We drink a lot of tea to stay warm while we look at screens and talk to technicians on the ground. It’s a steady kind of work and we just take it one day at a time without any fuss or making it more complicated than it is.
