We are based in a place called Sagaon, which is out in the Shirala taluka of Sangli district. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you’re coming from the bigger cities, but it’s a nice area with a lot of greenery around. The pin code is 415408 for those who are trying to find us on a map. Our office is a simple building that fits right in with the rest of the village. It’s not very big, but it’s where we do all our planning and meetings. We don’t have any fancy signs or big glass windows. It’s more of a functional space where the local team gathers to check on the progress of things. The pace of life in Sagaon is a lot slower than what you’d find in Mumbai or even Sangli town, which we actually prefer. Most of the people working here are from the nearby villages, so everyone knows each other. We spend a lot of time out on the sites, but this is where we come back to finish the paperwork and have a quick meal. The road leading to the office can be a bit bumpy during the rainy season, so you have to drive carefully. It’s just a normal workplace where we focus on the tasks at hand without any distractions. It feels more like a small community hub than a formal office most days.
