The business of Gopal Mahadev Phatak is situated on the Dapoli Main Road in Chiplun. We’re right near the Gram Panchayat, which is a landmark everyone in town knows. It’s a typical local business that’s been part of the community for many years. Gopal himself is usually around, overseeing things and talking to whoever walks through the door. It’s a very informal atmosphere. We don't have uniforms or strict rules about how to talk to people. We just treat everyone like a neighbor, because most of them are. The building is old and has a lot of character, though it could probably use a fresh coat of paint. Inside, it’s a bit of a mix of everything. We handle various tasks and products depending on what’s needed. It’s not a high-tech operation. We still use paper ledgers for a lot of things and do our calculations by hand. It might be slower, but it’s how we’ve always done it. On market days, the road outside is packed with people and vehicles, and the shop gets very busy. We just keep serving one person at a time and try not to get overwhelmed. We aren't interested in being the biggest business in Chiplun. We just want to keep the doors open and provide for our families while helping out our neighbors. It’s a good way to spend the day.
